A scorching summer's day
On the 24th of May
Every single blossom was white
And there wasn’t a cloud in sight

She walked through the town
And not a thing could get her down
Her tan skin soaked up the Sun
Summer had only just begun

She ran her hands through her hair
And her feet were bare
Going out on a whim
She decided to take a swim

Upon the great Ocean blue
It was then and there that she knew
She loved how she was
That’s just what the Ocean does

She walked through the sand
With her favorite shades in her hand
And a smile on her face
Because she knew not being happy was a disgrace

Every day she walked
And she listened and she talked
To the friends she’s met
And enjoyed the memories that she kept

The town was jealous it seemed
About this girl and her dreams
But it was here that she knew
That’s just what the Ocean does to you

My name is Paige, I'm a high school senior from Central Illinois. I'm new to writing poetry, but I often write stories for fun. I was inspired to write this poem because I am definitely ready to get rid of this harsh winter weather we have here and escape into my favorite season, summer. I love traveling and I have seen the ocean several times. Whenever I'm around the ocean everything feels complete to me and I always feel overwhelmed with happiness. I hoped that in creating this poem people would feel the same way I do about the ocean, even if they are experiencing winter weather like I am. I wish that it brings you hope and a sense of peace in the world around you.
