In the Theatre Basement
The stage lights go down
As the cast returns from their final bow
And the spot ops climb to the ground
While the actors let out a long sigh
Exhausted from their hard work
Another incredible performance
And one pretty youth hangs up her costume
Looks at her painted face in the mirror
At her hazel eyes
Lined in black
And her silky rose-blonde
That hangs halfway down her back
And she peeks out of the dressing room
That one spot op is there
Dressed in standard blacks
With a long French braid
And satisfied gray-blue eyes
She smiles knowingly at the lovely actress
And steals away to the basement
Where ghosts dance around costumes
And waits for her beloved girl
Who distracts her from the soloists
She's supposed to be following
And they seal a forbidden love
With a forbidden kiss
Deep in the belly of the theatre
Where ghosts dance around costumes
And laugh behind spotlights
And watch over young lovers
Till they're off to rest
And put on another show
