More real than solid earth;
And to these death does not mean decay,
But only another birth"

I just want to be a Tree.

I want to steal my heartbeat from the grass,
Spread my branches so far they crack the blistered streets,
And create oxygen for the creatures of the Earth.

I want to be alive, to grow and sigh,
To feel the sun’s glow, and the chill of autumn.

I can already hear the sprites living in my hollows,
The elves whispering tales of melodious delight.

I dream of conversing with the sky,
An ancient language so seldom known to man,
And so irresistibly beautiful.

I wish upon every star for roots that blossom far into the ground,
Pulling out nutrients where no one seems to find any.

I want to sleep with comfort, to give others someone to lean on when their spine falls short.
I could mend their broken pieces, binding them together with my twigs and words of love.

I just want to be a Tree,
I want to be Alive.
