The Wolf
Deep in the forest
A wolf walked alone
All day he would wander
Not a place he called home
His blue eyes dull
Heart twisted from grief
Oh, how solitude plagued his soul
Not a single feeling of relief
The wolf would climb atop a mountain
To the forest he would cry
His head sank low
Recieving no reply
The autumn morning brisk
He came upon a cave
Hope fluttered in his heart
A loud cry he gave
An unexpected sound came
Replying cries, multiple in fact
The wolf felt alive again
And ran into the black
Hours upon hours passed
Yet, he did not slow down the pace
As long as he heard replying cries
He would continue the dark race
The wolf ran with such speed
He tumbled into a wall
The end of the cave was dark
Nothing was there at all
The wolf let out a confusing howl
His naive soul drowned in sorrow
Whimpering hoplessly in the dark
Lonely today and all tomorrows
The wolf, motionless on the earth
What he heard was not a hello
Shame and gloom burned his bones
For he had chased his own echo
