Ignore the Mirror
It takes you years to know for sure
And perhaps you’ve been waiting
For the easy one-stop cure
For that little part of you you’re hating
Every time you look in the mirror
And wish you didn’t know-
But it’s only becoming clearer
And your anxiety will grow
Until you’re bursting at the seams
And you’re done with all the denial
Those words are haunting your dreams
And you fear that eventual trial
But don’t you cry no more
Because hands will reach out to hold
And though your heart may be sore
Those hands are far from cold
Accept yourself, don’t bleed
Come to love the skin you’re in
This is not a matter of creed
Nor is it a fault or sin
Beauty comes from love
And love starts from within
You might need a little shove
But that’s what this has been
A call to put away thoughts of shame
And love how you’ve been made
There’s nothing here to blame
So put down any criticizing blade
Your colors, inside or out, are beauty
You’re alive- that’s all that matters to me
