I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one gets through to the father except through me. - Jesus Christ

We walked into each other's lives, barely sparing a passing glance,
if only we had assayed to know what fate had held in store.
We didn't consider the other significant at all,
nothing but another grain of sand upon the shore.

It all started with a whisper, flirting led to plans devised,
if only we had assayed to know what fate had held in store.
"Perhaps," I said, "a little meet would be a boon to us."
"Agreed," said she, "to see your face, there's nothing I'd like more."

Apprehension filled my bones as the day approached,
my mind running over all that fate could have in store.
I waited at my destination, fear making my color wan,
yet when I laid my eyes upon her, my heart began to soar.

We walked toward each other, staring as if in a trance,
if only we had assayed to know what fate had held in store.
Our very lives conjoined at Aphrodite's call,
our joy was unparalleled in all the kinds of lore.

It all ended with a shouting match, hate directed to love once prized, now we sadly were to know what fate had held in store.
"Perhaps," I said, "a little parting would be a boon to us."
"Agreed," said she, "to see your face, there's nothing I loathe more."
