My Mask

Behind the mask that no one sees,
Lies the person I wish to be.
The one who risks to have it all,
The one who’s never afraid to fall.
The one who can say ‘what the hell’,
The one who never cares what they tell,
Whether it’s putting someone down,
Or being the opposite and acting like a clown.
The one able to face her insecurities,
The one who can be secure in her beliefs,
Never afraid to stand up for what she thinks.
Never hanging on the brink.
Behind this mask I feel constrained,
Like a puppet on a pair of reins,
Something else always dictating what I do,
Always making me subdue.
But one day I’ll break free,
And be the person I’m meant to be.
But until that day I’ll keep on trying,
Even if I feel like crying.

In this poem I'm trying to convey the feelings a lot of people probably feel, including myself, and how we must all try to strive above those feelings to be who we want to be and who we are meant to be.
