I wait in the dark
safe and alone
With chains on my wrist
and a key made of gold

Silver chains stay quiet
as I stay still in the dark
I look down at the key
that is your heart

I escaped my chains once
It didn't go well
The boy broke my heart
and into the dark i fell

Do I dare leave
and risk all of the pain?
They say love is a gift
or maybe a curse
from my experience
i say it's much worse

You are different
Your smile full of light
could you be my sunrise
to my endless night?

I hold up my key
to unlock my chains.
What am I doing?
am I going Insane!!!

But I'm tired of the dark
and I'm sick of the cold
I unlock my chains
with my key of gold

The light on my face
The warmth on my skin
Me and you holding hands
let the journey begin

This poem is for any one who has had their heart broken. There will always be another chance for you, and yes it will be scary knowing that the last time didn't go well. but you will never get to experience love if you keep your chains on your entire life.

I really loved this poem.  The verses flow nicely and the rhyming is done very well, none of it seems forced at all.  I love the symbolism and imagery, great job :)  Please read some of my work, I'd love to know what you think!  :D  Great job here!

A rose and a flame, are just the same.

Why do all great things have saddening origins? A great poem none the less. 5 stars.
