Your Eyes
In your eyes I see a question
I see you longing for better times
I see you hunched over and tired,
Always paying for someone else’s crimes
In your eyes,
Those deep oceans of blue
I see years,
Of being told what to do
I see your struggle
Like a bird with clipped wings
And I see you smiling
At the smallest of things.
I see you hands
Two prunes wrinkled with age
And I watch your performance
Though you never take the stage.
Your life is a song
A melody that makes me cry,
For the message is clear
As the cloudless sky.
You see a rose
When the rest see a thorn,
And you hold it together,
When all else is torn.
You hear a lullaby
When the rest hear the baby’s cries,
And only you know how
To make the sweetest goodbyes.
In your eyes I see a sunflower
Shimmering through the fog and rain
And I hope the look in your eyes
Always stays the same.
