Balmy Summer Day MAG
The flawlessness of happiness
On that balmy summer day
Leaves footprints in my aching heart
When I recall how carelessly we played
Dancing and laughing
Oh, our souls were lifted with glee
On that balmy summer day
Playing our little games; just you and me
Your father, he was like my own
But the distance between us is now long
And the love between us fell apart
Like music, without song
Drinking lemonade in the evening
Won't ever be the same
There won't be another balmy summer
Because we decided to play that game
I walk up the aisle on this very day
In my guilty suit and tie
A paper dangling from my hand
Oh, the writing holds no lie
On that balmy summer day
I knew I should have been careful
And now I walk up to the front of the church
Wishing for opportunity to be prayerful
The guilt, it eats me alive inside
Even though I am innocent, it's true
The mournful glances from the congregation
Remind me of what I've done to you
My hands sweat and my knees tremble
Through my mind burn flashbacks of the day
It was only one balmy summer afternoon
But the memories will never fade away
I set the folded paper on your resting place
And my heart, it nearly exploded
On the sheet I wrote, with a shaking hand
“I didn't know it was loaded.”
