Twas near noon at the school
And lunch had just begun.
John went to his usual spot
And sat like a wrinkly old nun.

An acquaintance of his, named Jim,
Came by and got out all his food.
He paid no mind to John that day
Jim just wasn’t in a good mood.

John wondered why Jim was so quiet.
Had he recently gone through some strife?
So he quietly came to Jim and asked him
“Hey Jim! How’s life?”

Jim slowly turned his tall ol’ body
With his flustered, ketchup-stained vest.
“If you must know,” he gloomily replied
“I just failed a calculus test.”

Jim fell to knees and begged, “Tell me, John!
Will you give me a good suggestion?”
John faced his friend and replied to him
“You didn’t answer my first question.”
