Chain of Hands
One, two, three, yes, there were three
But all I saw was you and me
The sweetened laughter and the glowing smiles
Kept drowing out the drowning child
Her hand went cold in mine, ice to touch
When did a smile, a wave, stop being enough?
Was a kiss, was a kiss
Worth all this?
For the joy we both felt and missed
Was it right, was it wrong, all along
To keep taking this path on and on
Was it in the words?
Was it in the tone?
The hardest part of love is the part you gotta travel alone
A chain welded from the burning heart
Never meant for the burning to burn it apart
Which of the frozen two will be taken
By the one who made the three start breaking
I'd rather not hear the choice
Enticed by deceit over truth's voice
Was a kiss, was a kiss
Worth all this?
For the joy we both felt and missed
Was it right, was it wrong, all along
To keep taking this path on and on
Was it in the words?
Was it in the tone?
The hardest part of love is the part you gotta travel alone
A secret for two to keep and hide
But born another secret forced to lie
A promise made and kept unspoken
But born another lie as the promise was broken
Where do we go from here?
And where do we start to look
For th missing link in the chain of hands
What it seems for granted that we took
Just a kiss, just a kiss
Wasn't worth all this
For all the joy we had to miss
It was right
It was wrong
And all along
We two took our path on and on
No words needed to unraveled nor needed to be said
For the secrets and the lies rest in the hands that feel so dead
Leaving the pair unlinked that ours once had known
Travel down the path you shouldn't have to travel alone
