a classic american teen
Honey-kissed tea
The goodness inside
Reasons we are the way we are
Like the sit-on-the-hood-of-my-car-and-talk-for-hours love
A classic American teen
The last sip of coffee in the pot
I was awakened
From my Sunday nap after church
In a room full of chairs
You sat on my lap
Flowers in the windowsill
Yellow and purple
The beauty in the room still remains
Not in them
In you
A lifetime spent waiting for the one
Who steals the covers
Fills my soul like the cream in an oreo
And sucks at cooking
The gap between our hands
When our fingers are laced
The first time I lied and said “I love you”
You laughed
We both knew it wasn’t true
You awakened me
From my Sunday nap after church
