Breaking Point
She saw the oceans break apart
She knew that thrill of terror
And clung to it - for it felt real -
Until the end of time.
She did not know that as she trembled
And winced at every dagger of guilt
And longed to bleed-and ache-and die
She did not know(how could she know?)
That to the chains she fought against
She held the only key
She saw her skin begin to burn
Her mind burst into flame
An eye for an eye (blood for blood)-
She (sweetly) was struck blind
She did not know that as she trembled
And reveled in the silent scream
And longed to fall-and run-and hide-
She did not know (how could she know?)
That though she ran forever - from herself,
There's no escape
She felt her blood become as ice
And fought to keep the sun at bay
She knew the tremors of resistance
And still would not surrender
She did not know that as she trembled
And held the blade against her skin
And longed to live-and see-and fly
She did not know(how could she know?)
That 'neath the alabaster skin
Blood flowed in her veins
