Waiting
a hinted stream
of muddy dusty stones
silent but for the rustle
of brittle broken leaves
sedges sage and grass
strewn along the banks
dry brown and dead
or barely sustained
by frugal veins buried deep
the waterfalls now distant memories
whose echo's serve to fill
vast and empty spaces
charms lit and vacant
the trees that mark the banks
stand all bark and bare and grey
against the dazzling blue
above the red and canyoned walls
their gnarled arms reach skyward
in frozen agony
and wait upon the day
water flows
again
