The Girl at the Bookstore
I fell in love with the girl at the bookstore
And I've got myself a dilemma.
The stack of unread books on my floor
Goes up and up forever!
I browse the books in all the nooks,
But no story of joy or woe
Could ever catch my heart on a hook
Like the girl who sells me Poe.
I fell in love with the girl at the bookstore
And now I'm drowning in books.
There's novels galore, but I go back for more!
It's my money and heart she took.
My book bag grows heavy; my wallet gets lighter,
But as I peek through a bookish disguise,
My smile grows wider like an all-nighter writer
With a fourth coffee, the largest size.
I fell in love with the girl at the bookstore
So I bought a book on romance.
Okay, I got two, or three, or maybe even four!
They all tell me to take a chance.
Armed with Shakespeare and Sparks's best,
I walk up to the checkout place.
"You again?" she asks, her smile a lovely jest
That turns my thoughts into a haze.
I fell in love with the girl at the bookstore
And it seems I have no spine.
Paper cuts and heartbreaks leave me sore,
But now I'm in a bind.
She is my Achilles heel, the Watson to my Holmes.
Then one day, in the humor section,
She laughs and jokes and rattles my bones,
Until fantasy becomes nonfiction.

Bookstores are beautiful places. You can find me in one on any given day, browsing and reading and (sometimes) falling in love. Book nerds crush on other book nerds... it happens.
