Resonance

The music pounds, through my lips slip the words
We lift, release, spread our wings together
I listen to it, but I think it's me that's heard.

My eyes are clear now, while before this they were blurred
A home to return to, familiar and welcoming:
The music pounds, through my lips slip the words

Once overwhelmed, now blissful, now cured
Through my quiet, open mouth I pour my soul
I listen to it, but I think it's me that's heard.

A solemn silence seems to have occurred
Though I turn the volume louder, louder
The music pounds, through my lips slip the words

Closing lines, the music slows, grows slurred
I whisper notes and smile something secret
I listen to it, but I think it's me that's heard.

I open my eyes to find the world demurred
The sky seems soft and not so out of reach
The music pounds, through my lips slip the words
I listen to it, but I think it's me that's heard.

I love the format of the poem - villanelle, right? It's really good, and I can seriously relate. If you know what I mean about the line "smile something secret" I think. Cough cough cole!
