A blank piece of paper is God’s way of telling us how hard it to be God.
– Sidney Sheldon

He is the absolute best guy I’ve ever known, and he was my best friend.
He insisted on opening every door for me
even when it was at an inconvenience, and I told him I could do it..
We could be out, way past city limits with his house, and
he would refuse to drive anywhere if I refuse to let him open the door.
He is also very insistent on paying for everything.
It’s his God given right as a man to pay
because he ‘owns this magic piece of plastic’ that takes care of it.
Oh, he would offer his arm when we walked, and I had no protest.
His arm is strong with muscles you don't want to let go of.
One night while we were driving around the park
I asked him to pull over at the pavilion.
There were no questions asked, and when the car stopped
I put on a country song, and we smiled.
He turned it up and came around to open my door like he always does and
we stepped under the roof onto the concrete… and we danced.
We two stepped, and he taught me how to pretzel.
He was the only boy I’ve danced with that could dance better than me.
Sometimes I would look up and he would look down, and
we would stare at each other for a second.
I always wondered if he would kiss me in those moments.
He never did, instead I leaned in and smelt his cologne that screamed MAN.
Instead I held onto his rough hands and looked at the mud on the edge of his boots.
I should have done something, but I never did.

There are many high school life and love life regrets we all have, but when the two are intwined you tend to remember and regret them even more. For all the teens with could-have-been lovers lost in a younger age.
