As I reached for him
To embrace me
He was hesitant
Hesitant to love
Hesitant to trust
Hesitant to reach
Throughout our relationship
I often reached
To bring his heart closer to mine
To bring him closer to me
As close as it would ever get
In later days
We always met halfway
And then I stopped reaching
Stopped reaching for him
Stopped reaching for his trust
Stopped reaching for his heart
As I stopped loving
It was he who now
Reaches for all of those things
But
Out of reach I was
And out of love I fell
