every time i try to
count the stars
it reminds me of
just where we are
how far we’ve come,
how much is the same
how every single one
once had a name

i long to feel
i want to grow
my life’s too fast
but the world’s too slow
everything might be
just a show
but how can anyone
possibly know?

sometimes i wonder if
the terrified flutter of a butterfly’s wing
means anything to anyone but me
i look in the mirror
and wonder what do they see
and i wonder if there’s ever
gonna be someone else like me,
a quiet space of heaven
all soft and clean and free

there’s nothing to know and
nothing to do
because everything i try
leads me right back to you
every time i struggle
and strain to break away
the night creeps in
and taints my sunny day

to gain is to fail
and love always is lost
i beg for an end
whatever the cost
i just want to live
i just want to be
but the sun is blinding
and no one can see

sometimes i wonder if
the terrified flutter of a butterfly’s wing
means anything to anyone but me
i look in the mirror
and wonder what do they see
and i wonder if there’s ever
gonna be someone else like me,
a quiet space of heaven
all soft and clean and free

the tears and the pain
the cries in the night
there’s only two ways:
to flee or to fight
in a world of thieves
no one keeps her heart
mine has been stolen
by you from the start

drowning in darkness
falling in lies
when i wake up each morning
its such a surprise
i know i think of you
but do you think of me?
you give me the hope
to continue to dream

and now i feel that
the beautiful flutter of a butterfly’s wing
means something to someone but me
i look in the mirror
and accept what i see
cause i know that i’ve found
someone else like me,
a quiet space of heaven
all soft and clean and free
