1) The Shapeshifter

The shapeshifter,
I admire from afar,
he makes his hands go completely numb,
when he transforms in a cat,
a bat,
or even possibly a rat.
Others could say it is quite dumb,
the way he changes by paining himself so.
But it brings a smile to some faces,
when he makes them laugh
and smile
he wishes he could freeze time for awhile
to tell everyone his happiness
in the happiness of others.

  2) Why

Why do we do things
like yell,
or tell others that they smell,
Because we are only judged by our outer shell.
‘the thing others see,
isn’t very pleasing to me’
says the boy who looks in the mirror
and asks,
‘why,
just why,
did they judge my looks today?
And not the books of knowledge
I keep
Hidden in my skull,
left to go dull.’

3) Skin

The way skin crawls
when you see something scary,
The way it goosebumps,
when you get cold and weary
in the snow
The way it tears like paper
as others sink their words deep into it.
4) Dreaming of Difference

The clouds out the window
look like pieces of cotton
I molded in shapes of lollipops
and candy drops
until
‘Shut up’ They yell
‘Sit down’ They say
at one point I think if this as a second Hell.
‘Look at all the things we need to learn today.’

5) Jellyfish

Where it is very dim
do jellyfish swim
they twist and turn
in a whim.

6) Medicine

They take the pills
sometimes the one that kills
no time to write their wills
the news gives them the chills
maybe the thrills
of what’s next
in the afterlife.

7) The Music Box

I have a box
one that plays music
I could sell it for some new socks,
But I keep it,
for when I’m sad,
My day has gone bad,
I let it play
and my troubles float away.

8) Endless

Maybe someday it will explode,
this giant geode
of rock
we call home
maybe one day it’ll run out of stock
that’s when time will be up
and we’ll all race against the clock
that is when
the real fun
will begin.

9) The Day

How can I describe the day
in one itself
The way I slay
my tasks
The way I stay
when they tell me not to leave.
The times
I’ve spent all my extra dimes
on anything
to keep this day
and never get to tomorrow.

10) Last

This is the last, you’ll hear from me
Maybe because I’m too busy becoming what I want to be
Maybe since all that extra time
I could’ve spent on myself
was spent on the person I know would
never be
someone like me.
