The song of the young robin echoes through the spring,
arousing the dreams of our children past.
The essence of life in song to say,
“Wake up! Your life starts today.”

Beating of the wings ripples the winds of change,
the change to collect the tears in a mother's eyes.
A shrink, a doc, a poet, and a man,
iron the crimp in someone's woeful plan.

The worms of the earth nourish pink mazes,
casting seeds in their folds to sprout light bulbs.
The robin smashes into itself, where the clouds and bricks touch,
and our children have grown up, out of luck.

The song of the old robin echoes through our hearts,
an old familiar wish that it grants.
The essence of life in song to say,
“Wake up! Your life starts today.”

The author's comments:

We were assigned to write an Elegy over the loss of someone famous. Immediately I thought of Robin Williams as his life inspired me as I was growing up. His death was shocking and devastating as I felt as though I had lost a dear friend. It seems as though everyone in the world felt the same, and so I decided to pay tribute to him through this poem.
