"There is something living in these lives I've not yet found." Julia Cohen

Child, you are more than your beauty.
These nights are fleeting nights.
Close your eyes; all is silent
in the tender overlap of darkness and light.
Come closer, I will tell you of love.
I will tell you of life.

There is no one adversary of life.
To expectation, I have lost beauty.
To time, I have lost love.
I can no longer tell days from nights,
all is light.
My breath will soon fall silent.

When I was young, stars were silent.
A bartender told me everything held life.
My glass was empty and I saw only light.
Everywhere I looked there was beauty.
All of my memories are of nights
in bars and in love.

The first time I fell in love,
nothing was silent.
He was as chaotic as the nights.
He overflowed with life.
In everything, he found beauty.
In him, I found light.

Today, it is within myself that I find light.
Today, it is within myself that I find love.
I am everything I need to be, is that not beauty?
I am an old man and my house is silent
but, child, everything holds life,
even the most solitary nights.

I am the clearest nights.
I am flickering light.
I am dissipating life.
There is rapture in self-love.
There is harmony in all that is silent.
In you, I see so much more than beauty.

Everything in life is best appreciated in the nights.
In corruption there is beauty, in purity there is light.
Every heart beating in love will one day be silent.
