Alone
I am behind my family when
somebody briskly walks
in front of me,
just for a moment.
I look,
I’m lost.
I freeze,
I panic.
There’s a quiet storm
brewing in my gut.
Lightning striking
my feeling of comfort.
My feet start to root,
growing to the ground beneath.
My heart is racing itself
in frantic desperation.
Where’s my family?
Where did they go?
Where do I go?
Why am I alone?
What do I do?
The world is growing
around me,
I’m shrinking,
being consumed.
I hear my name
and I rush.
