Ode to Fall
I perch on my white soccer chair
and squint at the leaves’
brilliant shades of
ruby red,
tantalizing tangerine,
and yoke yellow.
The brown leaves cover the grass
after they
tremble and float to the ground.
I grab a rake and
gather the brown bear leaves and,
launch myself
into the bright blue sky
only to be pulled back to Earth
by gravity,
who laughs, admiring
my escape attempt.
As I fall to the leaves
a light shines and I know
I am at peace.
