Closing Up the Distance
He came inside,
Opened up,
Closed the doors.
He said he needed time.
Needed to unwind,
So I let him be,
Hoping he'd come back for me.
He surfaced again,
Took one step forward,
Fell to the ground to avoid back-tracking again.
He said he's trying.
But the future leaves him shying.
He can't let anyone in,
Without feeling as though to this table, he's pinned.
I took two steps forward,
Barely at his feet.
He crawled back to the start.
I said I can do this anymore.
Said I gotta close this door.
He ran forward past all those steps from before,
But it mattered no more.
He could only show love when he feared we'd be torn.
