Saved By You
I'm walking
doing the normal routine
I'm flailing
a normal thing
there's a crowd
of surging people
my head bowed
I glance at the steeple
the feet are moving
someone knocks me over
I fall on the floor
the feet continue to trample over
the feet hit my chest
take my breath away
punch my gut
steal a part of my heart away
I lie on the floor
my chest barely moving
life draining out of me
I try to stop thinking
my eyes close
I await death
I heard you coming
you told me, "Get up."
"But how?" I asked.
"I'm too weak.
Just let me die
do to me a merciful thing."
You shook your head
and said with a smile
"Here's my hand
I'll show you how."
I was weary at first
didn't know what to say
I unclenched my fists
and you got your way
you put your hands on my back
you helped me to stand
it was like lifting from over my eyes a sack
it was no longer out of hand
you said, "Let me guide you.
for you are mine."
I trusted you and smiled
as I said, "Fine."

I apologize for the unsteady rhythm of this piece.
It's also about God, in case you couldn't tell.
