What We Don't See

January 7, 2009

Woke up in sweat
surrounded by snow.
His toes were frozen blue yet his forehead boiled.
In the middle of winter
he lays in an alley way
Wondering.
How long he must wait to be saved?
Far off, Christmas carols ring
and a bell begs for donations,
but no one finds him.

He closes his eyes,
drowns out all sound,
and melts into the ground

A mere hump in the flat ground
No flowers
No mourners
No markings

Never saved
