Taken from fire and thrown into ice,
A pleasant burn to the searing of skin,
Deeper and deeper it begins to slice
Till the knife is removed but it burns again,
This time from the pain of acceptance,
It must be torn before it heals,
The pain seems relentless,
But after days, the wound seals.
Months later it is felt again,
Though the end seems so near;
In the wicked hearts of men
Self-hate is held dear.
