IF...
Sometimes life hurts.
Sometimes it stings.
Sometimes it cries,
Sometimes it bleeds.
It wasn’t on purpose
When it cursed you to death
I would’ve bailed you
with my last breath
But the truth
Can’t be changed,
It’s not in its nature,
It isn’t arranged.
There’s no way to fix this,
No hope for repair.
The coffin is down,
Rain in the air.
If I would’ve known,
You’d still be here.
‘If’ is a wish,
and I’d disappear…
IF it meant you could live,
survive past this age,
Make it to broadway,
steal every stage.
IF it meant I could see you
smiling one last time.
Making up another one
of your silly old rhymes.
The blood in your cheeks,
not on your skin.
If IF was powerful,
I’d use it again.
But wishing won’t help,
it won’t bring you back.
It won’t stop
this grievous
attack.
You laid out the facts,
but I missed those too.
IF I hadn’t, you
wouldn’t be cut through.
I miss your laugh,
the light in your voice.
The way you stood up
when you made a choice.
I miss your stubbornness,
the way you smirked.
How your heart,
it always seemed
to work.
Until you were gone,
I didn’t know I was alive.
Because I died with you,
unable to survive.
I revolved around
your life source,
Like a planet stuck
in a permanent course.
Maybe I’m too honest,
but IF I had been a little earlier,
You would be with me.

I usually hold back a little when I write, but I just let go with this one. Sorry if it's a bit longer than most of my other poems, but it took that length to get it all out.
