Aching pain
Bolts through my body.
Cold sweat drips off my face.
Dying today is not an option.
Even my own legs began to throb.
Fighting is my nature,
Giving up is all I want,
However I can’t fight my own nature.
It’s a paradox.
Jab to my face.
Kick to my peroneal
Limping I spin and I move.
Muscle fibers are tugged in different directions.
No losing today,
Only victory.
Punch to the liver.
Quivering he slowly moves to the left.
Right hook to the temple lands right on its mark.
Stumbling backwards he falls.
Teeth clenched.
Under his arm I slip,
Vigor begins to shoot through my body.
While he lay there squirming,
RelaXed I slip my hand,
Yanked his arm.
Zam! One swift movement . . . one swift submission

Cover Letter
Dear Fiction Editors,
Please consider my piece “Alphabet Poem” for publication in a future issue of your magazine Teen Ink.
I am a freshman at Brookfield Academy High School and this is the first time I have ever submitted my writing to a magazine. I am very interested in both reading and writing. Some of my favorite writers and poets include Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Rick Riordan, Edgar Allen Poe, and Elizabeth Bishop. I also enjoy reading your magazine because of it’s variety and because of the insight I am so often able to attain from reading it.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Harsimran Singh Kalsi
