I almost had love.
I almost had lazy Sunday mornings
And midnight calls just because;
Hour-long conversations about nothing
And silent looks that said everything.
Almost, almost.

I almost had love.
I almost had a cliché life
From high school to college sweethearts
A simple cream dress and classic black tux,
Quiet air scented thickly with jasmine.
Almost, almost.

I almost had love.
I almost had a local future
Living in the magic of a small town
Sweet curly-headed children
Running wild in a lush backyard
Almost, almost.

I almost had love
I almost had a broken heart
And nights spent drying empty tears
Lovesick melancholy
Caused by harsh words and rash arguments
Almost, almost.

I almost had love.
That totally consuming fire
Colder than a diamond’s sparkle
More beautiful than a red rose
Perfection within a kiss
Almost, almost.

I almost had love
I almost had everything
I almost had you.

Almost, almost

Beautiful and heart-breaking. Though I disagree with you that love is colder than a diamond's sparkle, I still think this is amazing! You're an awesome poet!
