"What makes a flower a flower? And why doesn't the dandelion qualify?" -From my poem "Dandelions"

A Strange Word
Flourish is a strange word
It sounds like failure to me,
They say our city is flourishing
I seem to agree
The forests are all chopped down
I don’t even see a tree
Just a town
The dry mud paths created before time
By many a’ creature
Are nothing but gravel beneath
Your sneaker

What was that?
What did you say?
Flourish means to build and succeed
Not to lead this life of greed
We were given some land
Now dominate it all
The trees once stood tall
Now they continue to fall
We will all pay for our voracious ways
This message is one from which you
Must not stray
For flourish is a strange word
