The Illusion of Life
Life is an illusion.
I found that this is so,
By looking all around me,
And rethinking all I know.
Each of my five senses,
Are easy to convince,
Things unreal are real,
And things real are pure nonsense.
The colors I think to see,
Are mere lights bouncing around;
And the noises which I hear,
Are artificial sound.
The things I taste or smell,
Are whisps of moments past;
While all that I do touch,
Is not likely going to last.
This illusion has society,
So completely in its hold;
People miss the one thing real,
Unseen, unheard, untold.
Why is it that I so ingnore,
The only everlasting thing;
Which resides inside myself and calls,
My deaf heart hears no ring.
My body, my life, my career,
These all will pass away;
And even if I become quite great,
I will be forgotten one day.
Yet my soul and my character will live on,
And I'll never forget;
The way I grew or did not grow,
My soul, my eternal self, the only part of me that is not an illusion.
