“And then there are the times when the wolves are silent and the moon is howling.”
- George Carlin

Your eyes are saving, keeping me grounded
When all around me, despair has hounded.
Your hands are kind, gentle, and sweet;
The care elevating my heart’s beat.
I tend my saving grace and you allow it
For I would crumble like the dirt without it.
You understand me and fill me with hope,
That we will surpass the ability to cope.
I know you suffer throughout the days
to do the best with our usual ways.
I can say, though, with little doubt
That something comforting will come about.

This is an assignment completed for my creative writing class based off of Patricia McCormick's novel "Sold." We were asked to write a poem for the main character about her relationship with her mother.
