A Ticking Bomb
it sits inside you,
a ticking bomb,
and we brace ourselves for
the chaos it will bring.
afraid to move too quickly,
to make a simple mistake.
but then we do
and the bomb bursts
and there is screaming and crying
because the words that fly
from your mouth
are like shrapnel,
stinging as they hit.
and some get stuck
in ourselves
in our souls,
and they get infected.
there is no way to take them back,
not that you try.
and the next day you act
as though it never happened.
you don’t realize
the pain
that you have caused.
