Standing Still

November 6, 2008

A man stands on the narrow shoulder
A guitar sleeping on his slouching back
His scruffy, red beard
Tickling his chapped lower lip
Which sucks at the rim
Of an empty coffee cup
A hungry baby at a mother's breast
But it offers him no relief

There he is, and the cars pass him by
Offering no friendship
To the man in the baggy clothing
Cargo pants with excess pockets
But none filled
A shirt
Decorated with holes

The man with the dull eyes
Glazed and hardened with waiting
Waiting for a sign

This poet observes and re-creats through wonderful visual narrative, real life. It is like watching an excellent movie, but in moving, descriptive words. I want to see more.
