Why Do We Strive To Be Perfect
We wonder why we strive to be perfect,
Andy why people with ugly souls can somehow earn respect.
I believe that what we should admire,
Is not appearance but what we use to inspire.
Famous people's faces are always on display,
While personality is always hidden away.
No one is known only for their virtues,
We want to see their face before hearing their views.
With all the super models in magazines,
How are we expected to be who we want to be?
Hollywood glamour wants to make us believe,
that thin bodies are what we should want to achieve.
Social media is like a mouse trap in disguise,
It attracts people only to make them believe lies.
What if we chose to envy those with selfless morals,
Instead of eyeing beauty which makes us judge others and quarrel.
We go through life with images in our head,
Of the people we desire to look like, because we were mislead.
But we go through life with our eyes wide open,
Choosing to avoid the ones whose words go unspoken;
Not unspoken, but rather unheard.
As we ignore the "odd ones" we ignore their sensible word.
If we ever think to close our eyes, and listen without reject,
Then maybe we will no longer strive to be perfect.
