Dancing on a crisp,
piece of paper.
You describe in great detail

the mystery of a stolen key,
or the adventure of a pirate
through the open seas.
The heartwrenching
breakup scene
and the BOOM

of the first cannon fired
in the Civil War.

How you continue on the histories
of the old
and create the futures
of the young, and new.
Brave you are
for giving away the ending
before the detective
is introduced,
and courageous you shall be
when the whole world
wants your discriminating story
ripped to shreds.

Oh how your colors shine
at the very mention of
a festive parade,
and how you shudder

at the news you must announce
after terrible homeland attacks.

You have created
the coolest classics,

the saddest tales.
The longest series,
and the shortest poems.
You help us to understand,
to learn,
to imagine.
Thank you
for letting my mind wander

as I ponder your curious language.

Oh the notions
your incredible mind generates.

You are a burning flame,

a wildfire
of ideas.
You are like love:

never ending,
always forming.

In all honesty, this began as a school assignment, but I believe in the end this poem was more than just another school project. I really enjoyed writing this ode!
