Envy is Ignorance
Ivy didn’t like herself,
Thought she never would.
She would look into the mirror,
And think of how she should
Look. It wasn’t like this.
Not so short and stout.
She was supposed to be tall and skinny,
And happy with out a doubt
In her mind. She wanted more
Than what she had had just then
Perhaps a few more girls
To be near her when
She was sad. And some
When she was happy too.
So she looked to her “superiors”
Those who couldn’t see through
Her act. And the clique to which
she aspired tolerated her.
Ivy’ old friends were forgotten
But she just became a burr
Under the saddle, to those
Who she surrounded herself with,
They could see she was trying too hard,
And once during fifth
Period, everything came to pass.
They kicked her out of the group
And then she was alone, stuck
In a continuous loop
from which she wanted escape,
she wanted her old life back,
Maybe they weren’t as pretty
But with her friends, there was no lack
Of fun. Ivy saw that she was silly
To envy such a crew
With whom she couldn’t be herself
So she bid adieu
To those popular girls
And returned to her original gang
Who took her in with a grain of salt.
And then she felt a pang
Of pain. She was where she started.
Ivy didn’t love Ivy more.
But her friends showed her otherwise
Although they were sore
Around her. And yet still they helped.
Because that’s what a real friend would do.
Ivy would like you to beware
The envy that’s inside of you.
