Christmas
The joy began to fall the day before in crystal drops,
And Dad strung lights around the tree; he set the star on top.
Sweet carols echo through our home and lift our spirits high.
We fill our tree with ornaments of memories and smiles.
The gifts surround the pine like a green and red-wrapped moat.
The manger scene stands proud nearby with donkeys, cows, and goats.
And Mary waits with Joseph by an empty bed of hay,
The modest manger where our Lord and Savior humbly lay.
And in the kitchen, Mom bakes sugar cookies for the holiday.
We decorate each one with care, but spill the sprinkles everywhere.
And who could let themselves resist a sweet and tasty treat
When every breath of air you breathe is sugary and sweet?
And when we’re over with the wait,
We gather close and celebrate
The peace that only God can make
By sending Jesus for our sake.
