(dedicated to my brother, Matthew)

Ever since I was little,
I’ve been wanting a hug from you.
I imagined just how it’d feel,
If I ever got a hug from you.

You aren’t really the emotional type,
And crying, well, it’s not really your thing.
I believe deep down in your heart you care,
To this very hope I cling.

‘Twas on the day I was born again,
And my emotions, well, they really showed through.
I was expecting some comfort after my sorrow,
But I wasn’t expecting it from you.

I will never forget how you were at my side,
Within a minute or two.
I felt your strong arms wrapping around me,
Could this be too good to be true?

Quickly, I put my arms around you,
Locking us in a sweet embrace.
A few tears rolled down my cheeks and left me
With a tear-stained face.

Your hug meant everything to me;
It was warm and real and true.
It held a message three words long;
The message was “I love you!”
