We started great
With that simple blind date
It was completely out of the blue
When told me that you wanted to be just friends
And I numbly agreed
“Me too”
So we went through all the motions
Of our everyday lives
You not knowing my emotions
Were strangling me on the inside
And I’d lie in my bed in the middle of the night
Wondering what I did wrong
Was I stupid?
Ugly?
Was I just not bright
Enough to keep our relationship strong?
And then one day you came up to me
Saying you made a mistake
That I was gorgeous
Pretty
Funny and wise
And that you were all mine to take
And I pondered your offer
It was a lot to take in
When suddenly I realized I knew
That you would never change
That we would still be the same
Just trying to save a relationship you threw
Away
So I said
“I think you’re serious about this offer,
So I’m gonna give you some advice
For what’s left of my sanity’s sake
And yours,
Don’t push me off the same cliff twice”
And I walked away
