Duel Over Dance
I am a ballet dancer, My daughter died today
I want to go on pointe, I found her in her room
I’ll do whatever it takes, She grew so very skinny
My only dream so far, If only I ever knew
I practice every day, They took her in an ambulance
I try so very hard, They said they’d try their best
I stretch into the pain, They told me it was grim
No broken bones so far, They told me just to rest
Dancers are very skinny, My daughter was anorexic
I see them on the stage, I never knew the truth
You never see a dancer, She was my little girl
In an extra-large, Beautiful from the start
I want to be very skinny, I only blame myself
But I need to be very strong, She will not die in vain
With this internal conflict, Baby girl I love you
Whatever could go wrong? My little girl is dead
