Leah

This is a poem for my friend Leah,
whom I have left behind
Whose endearing bluntness,
honesty, kindness,

and child like games
were my greatest companion, and I regret most for losing
For when I was alone and afraid
you were supportive and reassuring.
I thought we would stay close friends
but a nation and an ocean are a greater gap than we originally
realized
And I have learned that distance

can tear and break friendships

which are hard to maintain and hold on to

with distance
So I write this for every letter I failed to send
every disaster I wasn’t there to help mend,
for you- my dearest friend,
Leah, who kept me going.
