Chocolate Smiles
When the chaos gets too noisy
And the fighting gets too crazy
And the volume can't be muffled
By the music in your ears
When the teacher's voice is grating
And the problems are just horrid
And you feel like your drowning
In a well of unshed tears
And the lunchroom din's unnerving
When your friend is up and running
To the "cool" kids in the corner
As soon as you heave a sigh
And the watershed is breaking
And your woefulness is peaking
And your brain is overflowing
You will finally have a cry
You will leap up from your school desk
And dash wildly through the hallway
And you'll make it to the bathroom
And you'll finally start to weep
You will hear the hinges creaking
And a friendly person breathing
And you'll hear the little rustle
of some cookies in a heap
As you crunch upon a cookie
And the chocolate hugs your taste buds
And the sweetness makes you calmer
And you slowly start to smile
As you look up at your savior
See her smile, reassuring
And you know she'll always be there
With some chocolate and a hug.
