An old man with his life near the end
In his need to have one more friend
Stuck together many pieces of wood and things
And made a puppet controlled by strings

He talked forever on end
Sharing with his only friend
He told the puppet all he knew
And all the things he tried to do

The puppet gave comfort to the man
Who held the puppet dearly in his wrinkled hands
The puppet helped the man's need
So he just nodded his head and agreed

They never left each others side
Until the old man lay down and died
We found them lying side by side,
The old man and his puppet friend.

I wrote this in 6th grade for an assignment and ended up winning an award, so I figured why not try and publish it. My classmates were mad at me for making the old man die... Nothing really inspired me to write this piece, It was just a little seed of an idea that ended up sprouting in my head.
