Thank you, dear, for whispering.
Your words fall like snowflakes, glittering.
You look like a predator, about to pounce on my soul,
But a small sip of my trust is your only goal.
You try to coax my heart softly out of its cave,
Convinced that I'm something you can save.
Don't waste too much breath; suffocation gets old.
You can't change me from diamond into pliable gold.
You gesture around us at the trees brightly burning,
And call it passion as the branches fall cracking and turning.
Experience with heartbreak drives my instinctive reply.
I say without feeling, no tears left to cry,
"If life is a tree and love is a flame,
Love kills and extinguishes, always the same."
And just in that instant the sky cries in pain
And the fire goes out just like that in the rain...
