October
In the heart of October,
From high above,
The clouds glare from beyond,
Down onto the tree tops where the leaves quake,
For fear of being the first to drop.
There’s a slight chill in the air,
The ground has started to freeze,
You can hear the crunch of the grass.
See the paths of the paw prints in the frost,
Hear the popping of the icy lake,
Watch the eagles circle high above.
The birds travel south to survive.
Bears head to the caves to fall into a sweet slumber,
Listening to the wolves howl behind the mountains,
The sounds will memorize you,
In the heart of October.
