What Lies Beneath
Spiraling into the darkness with you at my side,
your eyes know what’s about to come
I can’t find your hand, you’re so close.
I hit the ground hard, like stone.
Where did you go?
I see your face,
I scream for you but I’m too late.
You’re cold as ice, hair still spiked,
eyes still burning alive.
Your head heavy in my hands,
alone I cry my heart empty,
broken alive but hard as stone.
The smell of you …
A memory falls and fades away.
As you are laid to rest,
you sleep forever I sleep no more.
The sun sets over a motionless ocean,
what lies beneath the midnight surface,
can change the way life is forever.
